After playing in over 50 bands, and touring with artists as diverse as Portugal. The Man, The Steve Miller Band, The Village People, Sean Kingston, and everywhere from The Vans Warped Tour to the Grand Ole Opry, singer-guitarist Mikei Gray had something different in mind when he started The Frst, in 2017. “Freedom and fun were the goals with this project,” says Gray, “So as a mission statement there is no I in The Frst.”
Mikei and his ever rotating cast of Nashville Indie heroes, (with credits like Machine Gun Kelly, Elliot Root, Insane Clown Posse, and Simo, to name a few) spent most of 2017 in a 2000 Ford Expedition touring as far across the country as Key West, FL to Niagara Falls, NY.
The Frst is releasing “Another One”, their debut single, Winter 2018, via Missing I Records. The single features an eye popping music video, where Gray smashes dozens of iPhones with a Louisville slugger bat for the sake of “putting an end to the texting and driving epidemic in America.” Although members of The Frst appear in the video, Mikei performed all of the instruments himself both in the studio and in the video..."We think of ourselves as a musical collective. I might play one or two instruments on a track, or I might play everything...It depends solely on the song," says Gray.
Mixed by rock producer James Paul Wisner, (Paramore, Dashboard Confessional, The Academy Is…), , and mastered by Andy Van Dette (Sublime, Kid Rock) “Another One” is Winter 2018 Indie-Rock-Alternative fans next drive time anthem.
